What is Acupuncture / Traditional Chinese Medicine? Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) utilizes Acupuncture, Acupressure and Chinese Herbal Medicine to activate Meridians/Channels in the body maintaining healthy function of internal organs. TCM is a wholistic approach and does not just treat symptoms; therefore it has a powerful curative effect on the entire being. TCM focuses just as much on the prevention of disease as it does on the treatment of it.

Acupuncture & TCM Services at RNHC

The typical treatment time takes about 30 to 50 minutes. The Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine practitioner may use the following techniques during the treatment:

  • Moxibustion - heating of acupuncture needles with dried herb sticks to activate and warm the acupuncture point. Also known as "moxa".

  • Cupping - the application of glass cups to create suction on the skin. This is to relieve stagnation of qi and blood, e.g. in sports injury.

  • Herbal medicine - Chinese herbs may be given in the form of teas, pills, and capsules to supplement acupuncture treatment.

  • Electro stimulation - provides electrical stimulation to two to four acupuncture needles. It can be used for relief of muscle pain

  • Acupressure- can be a great hands on way to consolidate the acupuncture treatment. Acupressure will be incorporated into the treatment if necessary or substituted for those afraid of needles.

Following an acupuncture treatment you will usually feel relaxed and refreshed. For the remainder of the day following your treatment, we recommend that you avoid extreme activities and drink plenty of water.
