By North Ryde Physiotherapist Alex Donald

Due to the important role that our necks play in our daily lives, and with so many structures in the neck area, neck pain is a common complaint for many people. The neck is vital in the movement of the head and eyes, and as a result, there are many muscles which cross over the neck region.

When experiencing tightness in the neck, performing gentle neck range of motion exercises is very important to decrease muscular tension and to improve our range of motion. In the above video, Physiotherapist Alex Donald from Ryde Natural Health Clinic demonstrates some quick and easy stretches for the intrinsic muscles of the neck and facet joints, and provides some tips for how to stretch out the muscles most likely to give us the tight feeling in our neck and shoulders.
